Representative Joan Meschino Endorsed by ELM Action Fund PAC
The Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund PAC has endorsed Representative Joan Meschino of Hull in the election for the 3rd Plymouth State Representative district, a credit to her commitment to the environment.
“Representative Meschino is a proven environmental champion,” stated ELM Action Fund Executive Director Joe O’Brien. “She knows that in towns like Hull and across the state we need to build a clean energy economy that will power us into the future.”
“Representative Meschino is passionate about protecting her coastal community against the impacts of climate change,” said ELM Action Fund President Elizabeth Henry. “She understands that to protect future generations in Hull and across the Commonwealth we need to invest in resiliency and renewable energy .”
Representative Meschino is an active partner with House colleagues calling for the transition to renewable energy, electrification of public transit, and updating the renewable portfolio standard. She was a major voice in advocating for the Commonwealth to dedicate VW settlement funds for charging infrastructure and electric vehicles, as well as for innovative battery storage options.
“I’m delighted to be working with ELM to protect our environment and chart a renewable and sustainable future for Massachusetts,” said Representative Meschino. “Climate change and sea level rise are urgent issues facing our communities. We must support municipal vulnerability assessments, invest in resiliency and adaptation strategies, and enact policy to support the Commonwealth’s global warming strategy commitments as stewards for future generations.”
Representative Meschino was elected to two terms as a Selectman in Hull and served on numerous town boards and committees, as well as regional boards and statewide commissions. She is a seasoned nonprofit executive and social justice advocate. She began her legal career in criminal defense and civil rights law. Most recently, she served as Executive Director for the Massachusetts Appleseed Center for Law and Justice, Inc., a public interest law center that promotes equal rights and opportunities for Massachusetts residents. Representative Meschino grew up in Hull and worked summers on her father’s lobster boat to pay for college. She graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in English, and earned her J.D. from University of New Hampshire School of Law (formerly Pierce Law).
