Representative Christine Barber Endorsed by ELM Action Fund PAC

The Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund PAC has endorsed Representative Christine Barber of Somerville in the election for the 34st Middlesex State Representative district, a credit to her commitment to the environment.

“Representative Barber is a proven environmental champion,” stated ELM Action Fund Executive Director Joe O’Brien. “She knows that in towns like Somerville and across the state we need to build a clean energy economy that will power us into the future.”

“Representative Barber understands how parks, open space and public transit benefit her constituents,” said ELM Action Fund President Elizabeth Henry. “She’s exactly the kind of leader we need in the State House.”

Representative Barber works to protect our environment so future generations can enjoy our natural resources. As a member of Committee on the Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture, she secured state funding to clean up and create more usable parks along the Mystic River. She also fought to keep the Green Line Extension, including the Community Path and a stop at Route 16, on track, by making sure transportation officials understand how vital this project is for our future. This project will take thousands of cars off our roadways and improve air quality in our communities.

“From local issues such as maintaining the health and resiliency of the Mystic River, to statewide issues including fixing gas leaks and increasing renewable energy, I will continue to fight to preserve our environment and address climate change in our communities.”

Representative Barber earned her Masters of Public Policy and Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. Before being elected she was a health policy expert for a national health care advocacy organization. Representative Barber previously served as Research Analyst for the Committee on Health Care Financing, drafting legislation including Massachusetts’s landmark 2006 health care law. Representative Barber is active in the Somerville Democratic Committee and a leader in Progressive Democrats of Somerville. She has been active in local affordable food access, expanding public transportation, cleaning up the Mystic River and its surrounding parks, and creating more affordable housing.
