Senator L'Italien Endorsed by Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund

The Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund today endorsed Senator Barbara L’Italien, D- Andover, for reelection in the Second Essex and Middlesex State Senate district, a credit to her work on behalf of the environment in the Legislature.

With critical issues of energy policy and environmental protection currently being debated in the Legislature, the leadership of the ELM Action Fund believes it is important to return proven environmental champions like L’Italien to the Senate Chamber.

“Senator L’Italien understands the importance of our state investing in clean energy, sustainable transportation, and parks to help address climate change, create jobs, and build healthier communities,” said ELM Action Fund Political Director Joe O’Brien. “Senator L’Italien is a leader in the fight to prevent Massachusetts ratepayers from footing the bill for unneeded gas pipeline infrastructure.”

First elected to the State Senate in January of 2015, after serving in the State House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011,L’Italien is up for reelection this year and is running against a Republican opponent in the general election. The ELM Action Fund helps pass laws that protect our environmental legacy, holds our elected officials accountable and works to help build the political power of the environmental community.  This fall the ELM Action Fund will be working to educate and mobilize voters in key legislative races across the state.

Last fall, the ELM-Action Fund and the national League of Conservation Voters launched a new affiliation and an aggressive plan to flex the environmental community’s policy muscle in Massachusetts. The groups have backed pro-environment state lawmakers in special elections, begun rolling out its “dirty dozen” lawmakers with the lowest environmental ratings and continued its strong advocacy on key issues this legislative session.
