On May 31 hundreds of civic and community leaders gathered at the Boston College Club for the Environmental League’s 20th Anniversary Earth Night. US Senator Ed Markey offered remarks on the importance of fighting climate change and setting an example for other states and countries. He highlighted how policies can help Massachusetts capture the opportunity to create thousands more clean energy jobs by launching a robust offshore wind industry and keeping solar growing. ELM presented Green Star Awards to a pair of legislators who have demonstrated bipartisan leadership -- Rep. Stephen Kulik and Minority Leader Bradley Jones for fighting climate change and protecting the environment. In addition, Katy Eiseman of Massachusetts Pipe-Line Awareness Network (Mass PLAN) was presented with the award for her tireless leadership of a grassroots effort fighting unnecessary pipelines and protecting special natural areas. A Green Star Award also went to Aggregate Industries for corporate leadership and public-private partnerships in support of solar energy.
